  • What about light beam color of HID?
    • The color of the light source is expressed as its color temperature. As the color temperature increases, the color of the light moves from yellow to white to blue-white. HID headlights provide light at a higher color temperature than standard halogen headlights, which gives them a crisp white appearance. The table below shows the color temperature of various light sources. As a reference, sunlight at noon is 5250°K.

  • How does HID lighting compare to Halogen lighting?
    • HID light is best described as a bright-white, and is similar to natural daylight. It offers greater visibility on the road, especially at night. HID headlights are the safest headlights currently available and are now standard equipment on many upscale vehicles.

  • How does HID work?

    • An electric arc is zapped between two electrodes in a bulb containing Xenon gas and the gas ignition causes a light discharge. This discharge is significantly brighter than a the standard halogen bulb while consuming much smaller amount of power.


  • Why HID?
    • Most drivers said the almost complete darkness on isolated highways as a reason for why HID lighting is becoming popular. HID lights promote safety by providing a better overall view of the roadway and the ability to see upcoming objects quickly and more clearly e.g. road signs and objects on the road are easier to see when illuminated by HID headlights.

  • What does "HID" stand for?

    • "HID" stands for "High Intensity Discharge." This latest automotive lighting technology is being used on most upscale vehicles and will eventually replaces conventional halogen bulbs.
